Today is Take Your Dog to Work Day.  I have Jojo & Tressel here with me.  I left Pepper at home, as I usually do now.  She doesn't do well in unfamiliar places (except the dog park).

I feel I have to talk about the death of Michael Jackson yesterday.  His death was sudden and shocking; the man was larger than life.

The debates are already raging - how will we remember Michael Jackson?  Precocious child star?  Pop music genius?  Eccentric billionaire?  Accused child molester?

He may or may not have been all of those things.  But his passing makes me ask how any of us will be remembered?  Few people will, if ever, achieve the status of Jackson, but all of us have impact while here.  And like Jackson, we have public and private faces.  We are amalgamations of our many selves.  We all have our moments of greatness, our moments of transgression, and we are all misunderstood at some level.

Michael Jackson seems to have been an extremely lonely person.  He seems to have been mystified by the mores of normal society.  He at once was energized and destroyed by his fame.  I think his death should encourage all of us to ask - how will I be remembered?  How can I spread peace, love, and joy through the world?  How can I touch the lives of others?

On Saturday, PAWS held a special fundraiser event & adoption drive.  They had a car wash and a dog wash for donations to help the shelter animals as part of National Adopt A Shelter Cat month.

Cade & I were able to help out for a little while at the car wash.  Cade even got to meet a horse!  PAWS currently has a nice roan mare who is very underweight, but she is recovering well.

They were still working in the HOT sun when we had to leave, but I hope the event made lots of money, and lots of animals found their fur-ever homes!

I'll be at PAWS this Thursday 6/25 for doga at 9am... hope to see you there!  You can call me, or call PAWS, for info.

This past weekend, Swami Don Daniels spoke at All One Yoga & Wellness.  I heard him speak in January (with Connor in tow), and was eager to hear his "Secrets to Enlightment, part 2."

Don Daniels is one of those rare people who radiate light, warmth, and happiness.  I think I'd learn from him if he never said a word!

He introduced us to a few techniques to uncover the different koshas, or layers of our selves, to uncover our true self - the self that is one with all.  Amy incorporated some of Don's teachings into her yoga classes this week.

As for the food, we had a great pot luck lunch after hearing Don speak.  Is enlightenment easier to find on a full stomach???

Thursday 6/4 was the first day of the Billy Bowlegs festival.  Downtown merchants participated in a "Pirate Walk," where kids got to trick or treat in pirate gear (or, as my son Cade said, his pirate get-up).

3 Dogs & A Chick also hosted a pirate social.  People arrived with their canine mateys dressed to kill - or at least dressed to eat - and paraded down Highway 98 and back up Brooks Street.

Thursday was also the first day of my joint fundraiser with Nicole Poch.  Together we are raising money to support deployed military working dogs.  Tickets are $2 each, and you can win a private in-home doga session.  The raffle tickets will be available through Sunday 6/14.  Please stop by, purchase a raffle ticket, and don't forget to buy some of Nicole's yummy treats!
